Tailored Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training and support for universities and higher education providers, including teaching, student experience, accessibility and institutional culture.
We provide practical Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training and support for universities and higher education providers, including academic departments, professional services, student-facing teams, researchers and institutional leaders.
Universities and higher education providers are complex communities involving students, academics, researchers, professional services and institutional leaders. EDI can affect teaching, research culture, student experience, accessibility, progression and organisational decision-making.
Consider belonging, participation, accessibility and barriers across teaching, assessment, student support and wider university life.
Explore inclusive teaching, representation, research culture and the ways academic practice can affect different students and colleagues.
Strengthen disability inclusion, reasonable adjustments and accessible approaches across learning, employment and student-facing services.
Connect EDI with governance, leadership, policy, staff development, professional practice and culture across complex institutions.
Our support can be tailored for academic and teaching staff, professional services teams, student support and wellbeing teams, faculty and department leaders, research and postgraduate teams, HR and people teams, senior leadership and governance, and other student-facing roles.
You may already know the training topic you need, or you may be exploring a wider issue such as student experience, inclusive teaching, research culture, disability inclusion, race equality, harassment, leadership or institutional culture. We can help you identify an appropriate starting point and tailor support to the roles and context involved.
Support can range from a single training session to a programme for different staff groups, or wider work reviewing EDI priorities, policies and organisational practice.
There is no single EDI course that every organisation in this sector needs. We can help you choose training based on your people, existing knowledge, priorities and the situations they encounter in practice.
A practical foundation covering equality, discrimination, protected characteristics, bias and inclusive communication.
Explore racial inequality, representation, bias, belonging and practical anti-racist approaches across education.
Help educators build equality, diversity, representation and accessibility into curriculum design, teaching and learning.
Explore disability inclusion, barriers, reasonable adjustments, accessibility and practical ways to strengthen participation.
Specialist training for higher education and performing arts staff covering harassment, inclusion, boundaries, freedom of speech and professional practice.
Some organisations need more than a single training session. We can develop a programme that brings together different EDI topics for different audiences, helping learning connect with leadership, teaching or professional practice and wider organisational priorities.
Content can be adapted to reflect your setting, the roles attending and the issues you want delegates to explore. Training can be delivered face-to-face or online via Zoom or Teams.
Universities may need to consider EDI alongside student safety, harassment and sexual misconduct, professional boundaries, academic freedom and freedom of speech. These issues can overlap, but they are not interchangeable, and institutions need approaches that recognise the different legal, regulatory and organisational considerations involved.
Where relevant, our Safe Learning Environments Training provides a more focused route for staff working in higher education and performing arts settings.
Support can extend beyond training. We can work with organisations that want to review current practice, strengthen their EDI approach or identify practical priorities for further development.
Explore policies, practice, culture and available evidence to identify strengths, potential barriers and areas for development.
Consider how equality and inclusion are reflected in relevant policies and everyday practice and where further development or specialist advice may be useful.
Develop practical priorities and actions aligned with your organisation, learners or students, workforce and wider responsibilities.
Use follow-up training, review and support to build on progress and respond to emerging priorities.
The Equality Act 2010 provides an important framework for equality and discrimination in higher education and employment. Universities and higher education providers also operate within wider regulatory, governance, freedom of speech, safeguarding and student-protection expectations, so EDI needs to be considered alongside those responsibilities.
Good EDI practice is broader than legal compliance. It also involves considering culture, accessibility, representation, belonging, communication, decision-making and whether different people can participate and succeed without unnecessary barriers.
Where formal legal advice is required about a specific situation or obligation, appropriate specialist legal advice should be obtained.
Whether you need a single training course, a programme for different teams or wider support with your EDI approach, tell us what you are trying to achieve and we can discuss an appropriate way forward.
