EDI Training for Housing Associations

We provide practical Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training and support for housing associations and other social housing providers, including housing officers, customer services, neighbourhood teams, repairs and maintenance, safeguarding, leadership and governance.

Where EDI Can Make a Difference

Housing providers work directly with diverse communities and may support people experiencing disability, poverty, ill-health, caring responsibilities, language barriers or other circumstances that affect how services are accessed. EDI can influence tenant experience, communication, neighbourhood practice, repairs, complaints, safeguarding, workforce culture and governance.

Tenant & Resident Services

Consider whether communication, access routes, decision-making and service standards work fairly for tenants and residents with different needs and circumstances.

Neighbourhood & Community Practice

Support staff to work respectfully across diverse communities and respond appropriately to identity-related concerns, harassment or exclusion.

Accessibility & Adjustments

Strengthen understanding of disability inclusion, reasonable adjustments and practical barriers across communication, appointments and service delivery.

Leadership & Governance

Connect EDI with organisational culture, resident voice, policy, leadership, governance and service improvement.

Who We Support

Our support can be tailored for housing officers, customer service teams, neighbourhood and community teams, repairs and maintenance staff, safeguarding and wellbeing teams, managers, senior leaders, boards and governance groups.

How We Can Support Your Housing Organisation

You may already know the training topic you need, or you may be looking at a wider issue such as inclusive tenant services, disability access, race equality, safeguarding, difficult conversations, leadership, complaints or organisational culture. We can help you identify an appropriate starting point and tailor support to your workforce and communities.

Support can range from a single training session to a programme for different staff groups, or wider work reviewing EDI priorities, policies and organisational practice.

Tailored EDI Programmes

Some organisations need more than a single training session. We can develop a programme that brings together different EDI topics for different audiences, helping learning connect with leadership, service delivery, workforce practice and wider organisational priorities.

Content can be adapted to reflect your setting, the roles attending and the issues you want delegates to explore. Training can be delivered face-to-face or online via Zoom or Teams.

Inclusive Tenant & Resident Services

Inclusive housing practice is not only about how staff treat people face-to-face. It can also involve the accessibility of information, how appointments and repairs are arranged, whether reasonable adjustments are recognised, how complaints or reports of harassment are handled and whether resident engagement reaches different parts of the community.

Training can use housing-relevant scenarios so staff can explore how equality and inclusion apply to everyday decisions and interactions rather than treating EDI as an abstract topic.

EDI Reviews, Strategy & Organisational Support

Support can extend beyond training. We can work with organisations that want to review current practice, strengthen their EDI approach or identify practical priorities for further development.

EDI Review

Explore policies, practice, culture and available evidence to identify strengths, potential barriers and areas for development.

Policy & Practice Review

Consider how equality and inclusion are reflected in relevant policies and everyday practice and where further development or specialist advice may be useful.

EDI Strategy

Develop practical priorities and actions aligned with your organisation, workforce, communities or service users and wider responsibilities.

Ongoing Development

Use follow-up training, review and support to build on progress and respond to emerging priorities.

Equality, Inclusion & Organisational Responsibilities

The Equality Act 2010 provides an important framework for equality and discrimination in employment and service delivery. Housing providers may also work within wider regulatory, safeguarding, consumer and governance requirements. EDI training and organisational review can help teams consider equality and inclusion within those responsibilities without replacing specialist legal, regulatory or safeguarding advice.

Good EDI practice is broader than legal compliance. It also involves considering culture, accessibility, representation, belonging, communication, decision-making and whether different people can access services, participate and progress without unnecessary barriers.

Where formal legal advice is required about a specific situation or obligation, appropriate specialist legal advice should be obtained.
